is a series created in 2020 that emerged from my empathy for a sex doll that once stared at me from a flea market stall. I find myself deeply fascinated by my own love, and perhaps the recognition I see in this doll. She is allowed to be just as she is—always willing, a little unpleasant, imperfect. She’s essentially designed for the most banal sexual play, reduced to an object. Yet, it’s here that I feel a relationship of empathy. It’s not pity, but rather a connection built on understanding—and a sense of not being judged. There’s a freedom in that, an acceptance of being exactly what you are without expectation.
The series consists of five self-portraits created during quarantine, with my own bed serving as the studio.
