She is on display within my walls because she is a rare specimen—the last remaining good girl. A young woman who has not yet thrown her sexuality to the wolves. She has self-respect, is obedient, and anything but provocative. She is not asking for it. She does not need to be censored because her intentions are never vulgar. Safely protected within my walls from the outside world that could taint her purity. This is how we prefer to see her.
‘The Last Goodgirl’ was exhibited in 2019 at the EX-Bunker in Utrecht. The exhibition consisted entirely of self-portraits and served as a critique of modern perceptions of female and feminine bodies—how they are framed, controlled, and commodified. Through this work, I question the expectations imposed on these bodies and explore the tension between innocence and desire, autonomy and restriction.
